If you’re on vacation in Marbella and you start to feel a bit restless, there’s much more to do than just lying on the beach. There are some great excursion destinations nearby that are worth a visit.
Here we list some examples of day trips you can take. Some are a bit longer than others, but if you are prepared to leave early in the morning and come back late in the evening, all of these are possible without feeling rushed.
1. Ronda
Ronda is a stunning city rich in Andalusian history and architecture, just an hour’s drive from Marbella. The Puente Nuevo bridge provides amazing views of the gorge, and Ronda has Spain’s oldest bullring and several lovely churches and palaces. The drive there is also scenic, passing through the Andalusian countryside.

2. Granada and the Alhambra
A bit further away, Granada is known for the beautiful Alhambra, a UNESCO World Heritage site showcasing Moorish art and architecture against the Sierra Nevada mountains. Its palaces and gardens are memorable, and while there, you should also see the Albayzín, an old Moorish quarter.

3. Gibraltar
For something different visit Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. It mixes British and Spanish cultures and offers interesting military history and natural sights like the Rock of Gibraltar. 4. Seville
Seville is the center of Andalusian culture and famous for its Gothic cathedral, the Giralda tower, and the Alcázar Palace. Its historic center has narrow medieval streets that are fun to explore. Seville is also known for flamenco dancing.

5. Córdoba
Córdoba was a major Roman city and later a significant Islamic center. It’s known for the Mezquita, a beautiful mosque-cathedral with unique arches. The city also has lovely flower-lined patios, old bridges, and a Jewish quarter.

6. Sierra Nevada National Park
For outdoor lovers the Sierra Nevada National Park offers hiking and skiing, letting you explore some of Spain’s highest mountains. The park features a mix of snowy peaks and green valleys. If you are here between December and April, it’s often possible to go skiing. Then you can, for example, take a swim in the sea in the morning and then come here. A few hours later, you’ll be on the ski slopes ready to ski.

7. Nerja
To the east of Marbella the coastal town of Nerja has beautiful beaches, quaint streets and the impressive Caves of Nerja with prehistoric caves that contain the world’s largest stalagmite and ancient cave paintings.
Combine history with swimming and relaxing on the beach.

8. Tarifa
Tarifa is perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts. Even if you’re not into wind sports, the town’s laid-back atmosphere, gorgeous beaches and the views of Africa make it worth visiting.
These destinations offer a variety of cultural, historical, and natural attractions, making day trips from Marbella an opportunity to create lasting memories.
You can also go to Bolonia, which is nearby, and run around in the sand dunes along the beach.
