Bajadilla port in Marbella is going to be transformed in to a international landmark marina. The old fishing port will undergo intense renovation and rescaling to make it ready to receive cruise liners and other large ships.
Not only the actual port of Bajadilla will be renovated but the whole area around is going to be remodeled. Nasir Bin Abdullah and sons, the company headed by Sheikh Abdullah Al-Tani (member of the Quatari Royal family and owner of Malaga CF) has been awarded the € 84 million euro project that will give the East side of Marbella a hotspot like the west side of Marbella has with Puerto Banus.
Some of the projects most interesting details include a 200 meter pier for the berthing of large cruise ships, on the inside of this pier there will be space to berth 26 luxury yachts, an extension from 262 to 803 berths for private crafts, shopping facilities (12.000 sq m), residential projects and underground parkings.
The project is planned to start in 2012 and will create around 500 jobs initially, something very welcome in the hard stricken local economy. Expectations are that the new Marbella port will attract many new tourists from cruise liners who will spend their money in the local small and medium businesses of Marbella.
Many expect this ambitious plan to also have a large influence on the local property market as Marbella will reestablish to develop itself as the luxury destination in Southern Europe.
